The Philips Hue starter kit is a set of Philip’s new hue light bulbs with the design to give your home the comfort and warmth you deserve.

The starter kit will come with at least 1 light bulb and either the Hue Bridge or a dimmer switch. You will need the Hue bridge or dimmer switch to really get the perfect type of lighting.  The Philips Hue white and color ambiance Starter kit E26 has the bulbs with all the white and color features. This kit will allow you to choose from 16 million colors from the comfort of your smartphone or tablet. Because these bulbs have 16 million colors AND the white light ambiance settings, this starter kit is the most expensive.

The Philips Hue Bridge is required in order for these lights to work but it is included in the kit which is a $60 value when purchased separately. Installation is easy. Plug in all your light bulbs, plug in the Hue Bridge, install the Hue app and then let the app search for the light bulbs. Once the app finds them, you’ve finished the setup! You are now in complete control of Philip Hue’s most awesome light bulbs.

This starter kit will include Hue white ambiance light bulbs to give you a great white ambiance from sunrise to sunset. You can set the light bulbs to gradually get brighter as the day starts or to gradually get dimmer as the day ends, mimicking the sun.

These white lights can really give your home the right mood with light ranging from very warm white light to very cool white light. This is the second most expensive starter kit we will be looking at.

It does not include any of the colors that the previous starter kit had but has all the shades of white you could want. This could be a good option for someone not interested in colored lights. Installation is the exact same process as the Hue White and color ambiance Starter kit.

This starter kit is the 3rd most expensive option but is a great purchase. It will include a lot of the same features as the previous starter kits, so you will still have access to change the timers and dimming settings of your light bulbs through the Hue app.

You will not have access to the 16 million colors and you will not have access to the creating your own ambience with the full range of warm and white shades of white light. Installation is the same as the 2 previous kits.

This starter kit has the same type of light bulbs as the Hue White Starter kit (4-pack version). Meaning this will have access to some white and dimming settings, but will not have access to any of the colors and ambiance.

As it’s the 2-pack version it will only come with 2 light bulbs. This pack also comes with the Philips Hue Bridge. The only difference between this one and the one above is the number of light bulbs you will receive. However, you are saving about 30 bucks for just going for 2 light bulbs. Installation is exactly the same as the 3 previous starter kits.

This kit does not include a Hue bridge but provides functionality by including an installation-free dimmer.

You can place this on a wall near the light bulb or just have it anywhere and just pick it up like a remote and control your light bulb by turning it on or off. You can also make it go brighter or dimmer with the 4 buttons it has. You can connect up to 10 Philips Hue lights to the Philips Hue dimmer and control them all at once. If you buy a Philips Hue Bridge in the future you can still connect this light bulb with it.

This kit is the last kit we will be looking at and is the cheapest. This comes with 1 Hue White light bulb and the dimmer switch. It’s the same light bulb from the Hue White Starter kit E26 (2-pack version) and the Hue White Starter kit E26 (4-pack version). You won’t get the Hue bridge with this kit. This could be good for someone who would like to experiment with one of Philip’s new Hue light bulbs and dimming capabilities without forking over the money for the more expensive starter kits.

Conclusion

The Hue starter kits Philips has to offer can fit all types of budgets. Whether you would like to take the plunge and invest in the full technology and get the Hue White and color ambiance Starter kit E26 (4-pack version). Or you really don’t care much for colors, ambiance, and features and want a bare bones light bulb and dimmer switch.

I personally think you should purchase any one of the 3 kits that come with the Philips Hue bridge. The Philips Hue bridge is a $60 value that you are getting discounted by getting one of these. You also get more light bulbs to be able to properly immerse yourself with the technology and features. I just don’t think you will get the same experience or fully appreciate the technology with just 1 bulb.
